Motion Graphics: Logo
Reflection:
This entire 7 second animated version of my logo was one of the most tiresome project yet. But I also discovered a better design for my logo. I spent lots of time trying to find where to start on Adobe After Effects and I felt quite overwhelmed. For the most part, it was something I had to learn as I went through trial and error, and I followed along with a bunch of tutorials on Youtube and found exactly what I needed to lay first : the basics. There's a grand amount of tools and effects you can pull off with this software, some of it seemed pretty straightforward and other things such as making text/images zoom through the video such as I did with having my logo go zooming in a "dynamic" motion which is what my brand name is called. The first issue that came up when looking at how to even input my logo design was that it worked far better to use a PNG format of my logo rather than text. I started with one composition which I called "logo" for simplicity, and I ended up adding an effect called "CC Gradient Ramp" onto my logo design in order to create that black and white gradient dramatic effect. This allowed me to move to my second step of only animating the logo which was adding another effect in a separate composition called "outline", I dragged my "logo" composition to the "outline" where I added CC Light Sweep and duplicated the compositions in order to have alternating lights that swept across my logo. From this point, I finally got to my animation part and that was honestly where I ended up getting confused all over again. I had to redo that entire process about four times and it was something very new to me but eventually I got it to work. I did follow along with a tutorial and eventually realized I liked the animation better with the colors and a black background just because it felt like a lot more movement and at the end of it, I added a minor sound effect. I want to learn how to have images dashing or flipping in the background and then end in a black background to reveal the logo brand, similar to the marvel intro for movies. I feel the tone my logo gives resonates with me greatly. I like action packed designs and lots of monochrome and I don't consider myself a very aesthetic or a clean sleek designer, I feel I love a lot of adrenaline feeling designs as well as I like the rough, punk grunge look in a lot of things. I love alternative and rock music loads so I think that's where most of my influence comes from.
