Call to Action Poster Finals
Reflection:
This poster was heavily influenced with the idea of having the eye have more depth within the iris to indicate that this social problem is a problem to humanity. I wanted to draw attention towards this poster with having the colors contrast with each other. It was difficult to make the eye overall on Illustrator and I personally feel that I could also recreated the prison cell with the brush and shapes to keep that “drawing like” theme. When I viewed the video of “How Posters Work”, I genuinely wanted to try the circle method where it would center all the attention to that circle and incorporated the whole eye situation as well. I do find that it was difficult to add a texture in Illustrator which indicated to me that I should review my tools and techniques in that program. The colors was difficult to choose since I did not want to indicate one single race or skin color. I went with a warm tan because I wanted to reference my own skin tone, and I do believe I would change to color of the skin to be able to relate to everyone. From the three posters, this was definitely one of the experimental ones that I wanted to try but also explore what other styles work for me.
Reflection :
I believe in the saying “Less is More”, and switched to a more minimalistic style with having the cartoon draw the attention by itself and the text is solely a supporting detail. I wanted to use a fun fact or something that can inform the viewer and give that insight on what the issue is about. For this one, I wanted to emphasize children in solitary confinement. As a minor myself, I found it right to speak for those in my generation and for the personal relationships with people who have gone to juvenile. I wanted to incorporate a simple image that takes all the attention and have Sans Serif font that gives that simple touch. This would be my most straightforward design compared to the first one where it's a lot more of a drawing, cartoon-ish style. I would possibly replace the image in the middle with a real life photo but I wanted to stir away from photos and solely focus on using Illustrator with my illustrations. I would like to play with texture and specify a better usage of a illustrative style that can be a lot more concise and in order to achieve that, I would like to explore a lot more creative outlets that can build upon this experience.
Reflection:
I personally feel out of my three poster drafts in a sense, this would have the most potential due to the fact that it is the design of using diagonals that is most impactful in terms of setting this poster apart from other traditional designs where it goes by the grid and occasionally break it. I wanted to play with fonts and found that Impact was the best match for the small illustrative image. I don't necessarily like the red detail that I added because I wanted to recreate the whole paper ripped texture and I tried achieving that with rectangles and those rectangles having a textured stroke around them. I feel that it may be due to the color and placement of that detail. I do feel that I could work on the flare detail in the corner, possibly blend in the circle a lot more. The flare was to symbolize a sense of hope and light in these terrible conditions that can impact not only prisoners but families as well. I wanted to ensure that essence was incorporated in these designs overall, and I also experimented with the Generative Element in Properties from Illustrator to develop original elements for this poster as well as the second one. I do feel it was helpful but it was not helpful enough because it had lots of restrictions with the descriptions that you added but still helpful if you don't have a clear start.
