Call to Action Poster Roughs - 3/21

I decided to use more in depth technique with this sketch, utilizing the eye to be the center. I wanted to play with the idea of "eyes are the windows to the soul" and wanted to portray how long lasting the after effects of solitary confinement is. I decided to make the eye look as realistic as possible and showcase some human feel in the poster. I did not want to use a realistic photo of a human eye but I plan on recreating it in Illustrator instead. This made be think of ways to place the text around the eye or possibly inside of the eye but I felt the words should stand out more than the eye so I will see what fonts/phrases I play with in Illustrator.
I wanted to establish a twist with the Earth being something like a centerpiece of the poster. I wanted to add prison details such as making a false ripped corner with barbed wire and adding cement block walls to indicate a prison. I thought about it at first to do this Earth situation but I realized that it wasn't the message that was gonna be passed along easily since the Earth would be indicating a "worldwide" or "environmental' situation. I may play with utilizing the country map of the U.S somehow and warp the size and direction of the map. I liked the phrase "What if the world you know as it is, closes itself into one room?"
This poster idea was to have a center light and the words "Solitary Confinement" behind this light beam. But I felt that this design was more of a "book cover" in a way rather than catching the attention of the public to rethink solitary confinement, I wanted to add more detail to this piece. I feel that very much this piece can have potential in a way, I would like to play with phrases or possibly changing where we can put the circle of "light" somewhere else on the poster. I do believe that it can have more action, more of a flow to make it less simple.
This was inspired by the first poster that was shown in the video of "How Posters Work" and I liked the method of using a still art to portray something. I wanted to use the whole "Last Meal" before deathrow and how much solitary confinement can break down the importance of consuming food that you like/love. I think using food is one of the best ways to catch a viewer's attention and think what exacting is the poster trying to communicate. I liked the whole "broken" effect onto the fancy plates or utensils to show the frustration and lack of care for rehabilitation for prisoners.

This one I wanted to focus on the prisoner, I wanted to give a message of awareness and have an example as the main point of attention for the viewer to see and try to understand why the person looks like they're in distress. I want to add a better phrase while having the person sit on their bed in a dark, cold room or so. This push to dehumanizing criminals is not an efficient way to have them be reintroduced in society when their charges are not as terrible as murder/homicides such as drug possession, robberies and/or gang violence.
